Operations manual
Edit Planet
Manual changes are not validated against the rules in the World Builder's Handbook (WBH). Any value entered here is stored as given, so check it against the WBH yourself.
Planets are added with the Planet button on the Orbiting bodies table of a star's page. Moons are added from the planet's own page.
Fields marked with the chip icon are required: orbit, every UWP character (starport, size, atmosphere, hydrographics, population, government, law level and tech level), inclination, eccentricity, axial tilt, albedo and the five ratings (biomass, biocomplexity, biodiversity, compatibility, resource). Enter 0 where a value is unknown, except resource rating, which runs from 2 to 12.
Orbital
- Orbit
- Orbit number around the parent star. The AU distance and orbit sequence are derived from it.
- Retrograde
- Orbits against the direction of the star's rotation.
- Rotation
- Sidereal rotation period in hours.
- Eccentricity
- 0 is a circular orbit.
Starport
- Starport
- Class A–E, or X for none.
- Berthing and fuel costs
- Assigned from the starport class on import (WBH p. 257); blank means none. Edit to override.
Physical
- Size
- UWP size code: 0, S, 1–9, then A–H and J–M. Changing it recalculates diameter, mass and gravity.
- Diameter, Density
- Diameter is in kilometres and density is relative to Earth. Editing either recalculates mass and gravity.
- Mass, Gravity
- Calculated from diameter and density; can be overridden by hand.
- Temperature
- Mean surface temperature in Kelvin.
- Albedo
- Fraction of incident radiation reflected, 0–1.
Atmosphere
- Atmosphere
- UWP atmosphere code, 0–F.
- Hazard
- Insidious hazard: B Biological, R Radioactive, G Gas, T Thermal.
Hydrographics
- Hydrographics
- UWP code 0–A, each a band of surface liquid coverage: 0 is 0%–5%, 5 is 46%–55%, A is 96%–100%.
Population
- Population
- Population code, 0–12.
- Concentration Rating
- 0–9: 0 is extremely dispersed, 9 extremely concentrated.
- Urbanisation %
- 0–100.
- Culture Traits
- Eight dimensions of the dominant culture (WBH p. 181), ranges are: Diversity (Monolithic 1 to Multicultural 20), Xenophilia (Xenophobic 1 to Xenophilic 17), Uniqueness (Normal 1 to Obscure 18), Symbology (Concrete 1 to Abstract 19), Cohesion (Individualistic 1 to Collective 22), Progressiveness (Reactionary 1 to Radical 18), Expansionism (Passive 1 to Expansionistic 18), Militancy (Peaceful 1 to Militant 20).
- Sophont
- Choose an existing sophont, or type a new name to create one with this system as its home. Other sophont details are managed under Data Cores → Sophonts.
- Habitability Rating
- 0 is actively hostile to unprotected humans; 10 is a Terra-equivalent garden world (WBH p. 132).
- Biocomplexity, Resource Rating
- Biocomplexity runs 1–10; resource rating 2–12 (WBH p. 131).
Government
- Government
- Type code, 0–F (WBH p. 156).
- Judicial, Executive, Legislative
- Structure of each branch: D Demos, S Single Council, M Multiple Councils, R Ruler (WBH p. 158).
- Authority
- The branch holding supreme authority: L Legislative, E Executive, J Judicial, B Balance (WBH p. 159).
- Centralisation
- C Confederal, F Federal, U Unitary (WBH p. 159).
Law Level
- Law Level
- Overall level, 0–F. Changing it resets the five sub-classifications to match, as a baseline to adjust.
- Uniformity
- P Personal, T Territorial, U Universal.
- Judicial System
- I Inquisitorial, A Adversarial, T Traditional.
Tech Level
- Tech Level
- Overall level, 0–35, as recorded in the UWP.
- Specialist levels
- Electronics, energy, land, sea, air, space, personal and heavy military, manufacturing and medical may differ from the overall level where a society has specialised (WBH p. 173).
General
- Name
- The planet's designation or proper name. The generator button suggests one.
- Survey Records
- Free-text notes visible to players and the referee, written in Markdown (Markdown guide). Shown on the record in a collapsible block; toggle it with the chevron button. Reads “No findings reported” when empty.
- Classified Records
- Referee-only notes, also written in Markdown. Players never see this block, and it is left out of the API and exports for them.
- Reference link
- An http or https link. Leave blank to use the generated Traveller Wiki entry in charted-space campaigns.
