Operations manual
Planetary Body
Applies to terrestrial planets, planetoids, and moons. Sections are shown only when data is present. Orbital Data is omitted for rogue bodies not attached to a star.
Header
- UWP
- Universal World Profile — a seven-digit hex code encoding starport, size, atmosphere, hydrographics, population, government, and law level.
- Starport
- Class of the body's primary port facility, from A (excellent) through E (frontier) and X (none).
- Allegiance
- Political or cultural allegiance code, if assigned.
Orbital Data
- Orbit / AU
- Orbital radius. Shown as orbit number and/or astronomical units depending on campaign display settings. Moon orbits are expressed in planetary diameters.
- Period
- Time to complete one orbit around the parent body.
- Effective HZCO Deviation
- Deviation from the habitable zone centre orbit, accounting for stellar luminosity and greenhouse effect.
- Retrograde
- Whether the body orbits in the direction opposite to the primary star's rotation.
- Inclination
- Orbital plane inclination in degrees relative to the stellar equator.
- Eccentricity
- Orbital eccentricity (0 = circular; higher values indicate more elliptical orbits).
- Tidally Locked
- The body to which this object is gravitationally locked, if applicable.
- Sidereal Day
- Rotation period relative to the stars, in hours.
- Twilight Zone
- Indicates the body orbits within the star's twilight zone, producing extreme day/night temperature differentials.
Physical Data
- Diameter
- Surface diameter in kilometres, with UWP size code.
- Mass
- Planetary mass expressed in Earth masses (☉).
- Gravity
- Surface gravity in standard g.
- Density
- Mean density expressed relative to Earth (☉).
Environmental Data
- Temperature
- Mean surface temperature in °C.
- Rotation
- Sidereal rotation period in hours.
- Axial Tilt
- Axial tilt in degrees; drives seasonal variation.
- Albedo
- Fraction of incident solar radiation reflected by the surface and atmosphere (0–1).
- Greenhouse
- Greenhouse effect factor; contributes to surface temperature above the baseline solar input.
- Atmosphere
- Atmosphere code with composition type. Tainted atmospheres include irritant, severity, and persistence sub-classifications.
- Hydrographics
- Percentage of surface covered by liquid, with liquid type and distribution pattern.
Biological Data
- Habitability Rating
- A score from 0 to 10 indicating how suitable the world is for unprotected human habitation. 0 is actively hostile; 10 is a Terra-equivalent garden world. See WBH p. 132.
- Biomass Rating
- Total biological mass present on the world, on an arbitrary comparative scale.
- Biodiversity Rating
- Number of distinct species or ecological niches. Values of 10 or above are equivalent to pre-human Terra.
- Biocomplexity Rating
- Highest level of biological complexity present, from primitive single-cell organisms (1) through extant or extinct sophonts (9) to ecosystem-wide superorganisms (10).
- Resource Rating
- Economic value of extractable resources. Ranges from 2 (none extractable) through 12 (liable to trigger a resource rush).
Social Data
- Population
- Population code (0–12) with approximate headcount range, concentration rating, urbanisation percentage, and major city count.
- Native / Extinct Sophont
- Whether a sophont species is or was native to this body.
- Government
- Government type code and description.
- Law Level
- Law level code indicating degree of legal restriction, keyed to weapon restrictions.
- Tech Level
- Technological sophistication of the dominant culture (0–35).
