Star Survey
Star Map
- Schematic Map
- The same style of map as on the star system page, but showing only what orbits this star. A star orbiting this one appears as a single node, without the objects that orbit it — open that star’s own page to see them. Click any object to open its page. Not drawn to scale.
- Copy Public Map Link
- Link icon above the map — copies a signed, no-login-required link to this star’s schematic map as an SVG image. For a WebP image instead, put .webp straight after /map in the copied address.
Orbit Map
- Opening
- Solar system icon beside the copy link icon. Opens the orbit map in a window, in the current theme. Click any object to open its page; the star at the centre is not a link.
- Layout
- The star sits at the centre with the objects orbiting it on rings, nearest first. The same map as the interactive starmap. Rings are evenly spaced in order of distance rather than drawn to scale, and the real gaps between orbits nudge the spacing. Each object keeps its real bearing from the star. The dashed outline of each ring is that object’s orbit, so an eccentric orbit shows as a stretched ellipse.
- Labels
- Each object shows its name, or its orbit sequence letter if it has none, with its real distance from the star in AU underneath.
- Distant Companions
- A companion or secondary star orbiting far beyond the planetary system is pinned to the outermost ring, clear of the other objects.
- Belts
- Planetoids that belong to a belt shown on the map are drawn as small rocks scattered around that belt’s ring, rather than taking rings of their own.
- Jump Shadow
- The glowing ring is the boundary of the star’s jump shadow, placed between the two rings it falls between. A companion or secondary star shown on the map gets its own ring around it, in its own colour.
- Crowded Stars
- The map grows with the number of rings so that they stay legible. A large map scrolls inside the window. Labels can still overlap where two neighbouring objects lie in nearly the same direction.
- Survey Index
- Unlike the interactive starmap, the orbit map shows every object regardless of the system’s survey index.
- Download
- Downloads the orbit map as a WebP image, without links, in the current theme. It is named after the star, or after the star system if the star has no name, or after the sector and hex if neither has one.
- API
- The orbit map is also available as an SVG or WebP image from the API, for use in other tools — see API Access in Campaign Settings.
