The replace operation destroys the existing star system — all stars, orbital bodies, and rogue objects in the parsec — and constructs a new one in its place. This action is irreversible. Systems marked as locked cannot be replaced.
Enter a name, select an initialisation mode, and press Replace to execute.
Initialisation modes
- Empty
- Constructs a star system with no orbital bodies. When this mode is selected you configure the primary star by choosing a spectral type, subtype, and luminosity class. A primary star is required for a star system.
- Use this when the replacement system has a known stellar configuration that must be entered manually.
- Random
- Generates a fully populated star system with stars, orbital bodies, and a main world. Enable the Populated option to ensure the generated main world carries a population.
- Use this when a complete replacement system is needed and its composition does not require manual specification.
- Build configuration
- Accepts a YAML directive packet that instructs the generator how to construct the replacement system. Permits specification of the primary star and companions, orbital body density, allegiance, bases, and individual bodies with specific UWP codes.
- Use this when the replacement must conform to known parameters. See the star system build specification for the full YAML reference.
Derive Build from Survey
The Derive Build from Survey button reads the current system's stars and orbital bodies and produces a YAML build configuration that approximates that composition. The derived configuration is written into the build configuration field and may be edited before the replacement is executed.
This is useful when re-generating a system that has drifted from its original specification, or when a hand-built system must be seeded back through the generator to populate missing fields.
Primary star fields (Empty mode)
- Type
- The spectral type of the star: O, B, A, F, G, K, or M. Special types (Brown Dwarf, White Dwarf, Black Hole, Pulsar, Neutron Star) are also available.
- Subtype
- A digit from 0 to 9 that refines the spectral type. Lower numbers are hotter within the class. Not required for special types.
- Luminosity class
- The size classification of the star, from Ia (luminous supergiant) through VI (subdwarf). Main sequence stars are class V. Not required for special types.
